The short version: we don’t want your data. We can’t do much with it. We’ve set things up so we collect as little as possible.
When you log an act, we ask for one thing you did, roughly where you did it, and a first name or nickname if you want to give one. That’s the whole form. We don’t ask for your email. You can’t make an account because there isn’t one to make.
If you let your browser share your location, or you type in a postcode, we round it down to about 500 metres before saving it. That’s enough to put a pin on the right bit of the map, and nowhere near enough to find your house. Your exact street or address is never stored.
If you give a name, it shows on the map next to your pin. If you leave it blank, we put “Someone nearby”. Please don’t put surnames or full names in there. We’ll remove anything that looks like one.
We hash your IP address (a one-way scramble) and keep the hash for up to 30 days. We use it to stop the same person spamming the map with a thousand fake pins. After 30 days, the hash is deleted. We never see, store, or share the raw IP address.
We use Plausible Analytics to count page views and roughly where in the world people are visiting from. Plausible is privacy-first by design: no cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. We don’t use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels, or any other third-party trackers.
You can optionally add a photo with your act. If you do, we’ll show it on the map. Please don’t upload identifiable photos of people without their permission. We may remove photos that include faces or anything that could identify a private individual.
If you want a pin taken down, drop us a line at hello@thesmallact.com. Tell us roughly when and where you posted it and we’ll find it. We won’t ask why.
If we change anything meaningful here, we’ll update the date at the bottom. We won’t bury anything in legalese.
